Sharra's Exile follows the events of The Forbidden Tower. Lew Alton has been working to establish a new society on Darkover, one in which the matrix workers—the telepathic gifted—would be free to develop their talents without the restrictions of the old Comyn hierarchy. But his plans are endangered by the growing presence of the Terran Empire, which threatens the independence of Darkover itself. Lew's greatest personal struggle, however, is his continuing battle with the Sharra matrix—a matrix so powerful and so dangerous that it nearly consumed him. Now, as Darkover faces its greatest challenge, Lew must confront the matrix again, and finally resolve his own inner conflict.
